Goodbye Old Friend

My computer is in ill health, at death's door actually. We've been together for a long time, my laptop and I. Her name is Toshiba and she's always been there for me. During the good times- she was there. During the bad times-she was there. She's five years old, which is 98.7 in computer years. It's a time in her life when she is slowing down. She isn't what she used to be. She doesn't have the energy to keep up with the younger computers. Back in the day, her 256 MB of RAM was "all that." People admired her beauty and efficiency. But now? Well, now she just wants to lay around doing nothing at all.

Her ability to adjust to changes and new scenarios is diminished (CD Drive quit working this week). Her eyes (screen) often glaze over (screen turns black). I can get her to open them by nudging her. (I hit the "close" button just so, and it comes on again) And truth be known, she's turned rather dull. (not enough memory to see backgrounds on blogs and myspace and websites) She's encouraged me to move forward and find a new friend (laptop), and I know I must.

But it won't be easy. And I know it will be hard for her when I bring my new friend into our relationship. She'll feel like she's second best and...well...she is. But it must be done.

Goodbye old friend...
