I thought there was something like that...Hi, Linda. I thought there was something like that on my other blog. Maybe not. I'll check into it!

My dad was at Farragut the last part of 1944. He was there for boot camp and then radio school. Something like 300,000 troops went through there. They are searching for the names of everyone who went through there. So far, they only have something like 5% of the names. You might want to check into it! Let me know if you run into problems.

Linda Austin - It's great you made the family book! It's fascinating to me that the wife of an Iraq veteran read the ARC of the book and said her husband's letters (60 years later) were much the same. So interesting!

Thanks, you two! ~KarenKaren Fisher-Alanizhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03965274282794735808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732179649835006034.post-27897271314215978462011-09-30T01:37:17.319-07:002011-09-30T01:37:17.319-07:00This excerpt brought back memories of creating a f...This excerpt brought back memories of creating a family book based on my husband's grandfather's letters home. Always the same salutation, the censors, the slow mail. I love how you are making this your journey of discovery based on the letters and what you can pry from your dad. Waiting for more...Linda Austinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12440198392313322295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732179649835006034.post-27311406640302935662011-09-28T09:32:46.699-07:002011-09-28T09:32:46.699-07:00Karen, I read your first chapter at least half a d...Karen, I read your first chapter at least half a dozen times, taking in every word, every image, every message. Powerful stuff. I am SO eager to read your whole book!

A couple of things:

1. Could you add a gizmo that lets people like me "follow" your blog (I already am a "follower" of this blog; I mean your other blog).

2. In one of your earlier blog posts you mentioned your father being stationed at Farragut, in Idaho. My father-in-law was stationed there around 1942-44 or so, and my mother-in-law gave birth to their firstborn there in 1943. I wonder if your dad was stationed there then, and if so, I wonder if they knew each other.

Have a good day, Karen.

LindaLindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06961495299893766830noreply@blogger.com
